Keeping Count

We have now finished about half of ספר במדבר פרק א. We Have:

  1. Read, translated and explained פסוקים א-ד.
  2. We have read translated and explained the first רשי as well. Please ask your child what Rashi's question and answer was, and how it relates to the image above!

We then finished all of the details of the process of how it was possible for Moshe, Aharon and the tweleve נשיאים to count all of Bnei Yisroel by themsleves.

We reviewed the laws of counting according to Jewish law, namely, that it is forbidden to count directly, and it is only permitted to count people indirectly.

Ask your child why it is forbidden to count people directly, and what lesson WE can all learn from this!

Homework for Tuesday, September 20th:
Please look inside at  פסוקים ה-מו. Make a list of all of the twelve tribes on the sheet that I will give out in class, and write the final tally, of how many people were in each of the twelve tribes. Additionally, please write how many people TOTAL were counted.

The Handout may be downloaded here

For those who need assistance, please feel free to use a Chumash with English at home, or use the translation found online from Chabad.org

Classroom Rules:

Violation of the classroom rules will result in consequences that will be determined by the teacher based upon the specific violation and circumstances. Students who disrupt the class will be given a warning, and will be given a detention for a second offense.

There is a Zero Tolerance policy for inappropriate speech or behavior in class. Chutzpah, embarrassing another member of the class or any other types of inappropriate behavior will automatically result in being asked to leave the classroom and detention. This is your warning.

If you work as hard as you can, you will not only succeed,
but, you will enjoy the learning experience as well!

Every day, you are required to bring to:

  1. A full Size (8 ½ x 11) Composition Notebook
  2. A Soft Covered 3-Ring Binder For Handouts
  3. Your Chumash
  4. 2 Pens Or Pencils (There is NO Pencil Sharpener in the class)
  5. Homework assignment pad
Homework, Quizes and Tests:
  1. Students will be required to review the material from the previous day’s class at the beginning of every class. This will sometimes be in the form of a quiz while at other times students will be called upon to review the information orally. Therefore, students must review their class work nightly. (See below for detailed description how this is done)
  2. There will be at least two full period tests (or projects) per quarter and weekly quizzes.
  3. Binders and notebooks will be periodically checked and graded. Therefore, you are responsible for keeping your notebook and binder organized and up to date.
  4. Class participation is an essential and mandatory part of your grade. Class participation is based upon the students’ attitude and effort, not always on the correct answer.
  5. Students must be following along with the class at all times and be prepared at any moment to continue reading where a student leaves off.
  6. Three unexcused late’s to class will deduct one full point off of your quarterly average.
  7. If you are absent, you are required to hand in all homework the very next day, and it is your responsibility to get notes any assignments that you missed while you were out.

Approximate Grading Breakdown Per Quarter:
Tests/Projects                                                         30%
